So I have a buddy named Adam who lives in a wet county in a different part of the state. He is a fellow beer lover and supporter of this hobby/blog. Adam's beer store has the "build your own" six pack like the other stores that we mention. It seems, however, that his store has a different selection than the ones that JT and I frequent. This beer, along with some others that I will review, came from Adam's location.
The Old No.38 Stout is from the North Coast Brewing Co., which is located in Fort Bragg, CA. Before I get to the beer let me just say that it has a very cool bottle/label, and a cool back story to its name (it explains it on the label and website.)
This beer is classified as a Dublin Dry Stout. Of course, I didn't even know that there was such a classification. Once again, I learned something............through drinking beer! I am a fan of stouts. So it makes sense that I enjoyed this stout. It was nice and rich with a decent 5.5% ABV. It had all the coffee/chocolate notes that I like in a stout. There was a good clean finish that didn't linger too long. Just a good solid stout with some awards to back it up (Gold Medal in the 2003 World Beer Championships in Chicago.) Every stout lover should give this one a try.
