Anchor Brewing Christmas Ale‏--JT's Review

Once again, Shawn challenges me in my beer tasting. I am not a big fan of Anchor beers, but Shawn brought over their Christmas Ale. Of course I tried it, for as much as anything, because of intrigue for the story.

Anchor has been making this seasonal for 37 years and changing the recipe every year. It is only sold from November to mid January. As I embarked on my first Anchor Christmas Ale, it dawned on me that it might take me from December to January to finish it.

It wasn't bad beer at all, but it was dark, heavy, and thick as hell. I would classify this more as a holiday porter than an ale, but there were enough hops in the finish to make one think of an ale. I was surprised that it only had a 5.5% ABV.

This is definitely a slow drinking beer. Once I got my arms around that, it was ok.
